That’s right! I’m on Patreon now! It’s largely so I can do a low-pressure sticker-club-type-thing, but I’ve also got fun behind the scenes type stuff about writing and art and whatever I’m up to at the moment.
I can anticipate you might be wondering a thing or two, though, so let’s do a quick Q&A!
Q: Why Patreon?
A: I’ve wanted to start an art shop for a while now, but haven’t really had the time to set aside for setting up a whole shop and keeping on top of orders and stock and all that. Doing a sticker subscription thing on Patreon saves me time so I can spend more time writing and making art.
I also have a few book-related goals that I’ve been struggling to justify getting started on. I really really want to get an audiobook going for The Map to You, for example, but just don’t really have the budget to do so yet. I’ve also thought it would be fun to do special hardcover illustrated editions of some (or all?) of the Next Stop Love books. Knowing I had a few folks who actually wanted to see that kind of thing might give me the confidence boost (and funding boost!) I’d need to move forward with those.
It’s also just about being able to give something back. I’m still a little stunned that I’ve come across people who have been so sweet and enthusiastic about The Map to You and Next Stop Love, and setting up a Patreon means I can send out extra stickers and signed bookplates and also share my writing notes and working character sheets and all sorts of extras with the folks who are interested without bothering those who aren’t.

Q: What does this mean for your social media and your newsletter?
A: Good question! You’ll still see me just as often on Instagram and elsewhere. I’ve been trying to post at least once a week this year, and that’s not going to change. In fact, I’ll probably be around social media even more! You’ll definitely see more newsletters from me as well. I’m in the middle of revamping my mailing list and will generally be sending out emails once a month. (My mailing list is also the only place where you’ll get free short stories!)
All Patreon does is give me an easy way to ship stickers and prints in a way that’s easy for me to manage. Patreon will also give me a place to get more in-depth about my art and writing process with those who are interested in that sort of thing. But don’t worry, I won’t be withholding anything I was posting before!
