Today I thought it might be fun to go back through my old art and show off some of my favorite pieces featuring my two main characters, Beatrice and Julian.
Fun for you, anyway. I reserve the right to be vaguely embarrassed by my three-year-old art. 😅

I didn’t finish a whole lot of sketches in 2017 or the start of 2018. It seemed really daunting at the time, I think, with the limited tools I had at my disposal. This one is from January of 2018, not long after I started the book. I still like it, to be honest. They just look so happy.
Their designs haven’t actually changed that much since then. Here’s them again in May 2018:

And one in ballpoint pen from June of 2018 which actually shows Julian’s tattoo:

I still love this next one, with all the warm colors and big ol’ trees:

None of these are from actual scenes in the book. I think one of the things I like to do when I draw characters is take the opportunity to make art about parts of the character’s lives that wouldn’t necessarily have a place in the structure of a novel. Like this next one, from November of last year:

It’s a cute, out-of-conflict moment. And drawing hugs just makes me happy, y’all. I do it to this day:

You can check out my Instagram for more art, if you like! And check back tomorrow for another countdown post!
Next Stop Love is coming out on September 22nd. If you want to learn more about it, you can click here for the description and links to where it’s available to preorder. See you soon!
